Dr. Brielle Cardieri, MD, is a board-certified Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist on the Upper East Side in New York City. She is the founder and medical director of Insight MD, a psychiatric private practice that specializes in the treatment of adults using a combination of individual psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

Education & Training.

Dr. Cardieri has been fortunate to train at some of the top institutions in the world for medicine, psychiatry, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She is grateful that her educational opportunities have granted her the knowledge & expertise to help people.

  • Psychiatric Training: Dr. Cardieri completed Residency Training in Psychiatry at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During training, she volunteered with the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program (MSHRP), where she conducted Mental Health evaluations for asylum seekers and provided legal affidavits to support applications for asylum.

  • Psychodynamic & Psychoanalytic Therapy Training: Dr. Cardieri completed multiple year-long training programs in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute (NYPSI) and The White Institute.

  • Medical Education: Dr. Cardieri graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. During all four years of her medical education, she was deeply involved in Mount Sinai’s student-run free clinic EHHOP, where one of her many roles was President of the Clinic.

Dr. Cardieri is trained and experienced in treating a wide range of presenting concerns including:

  2. Anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder

  3. Attentional Issues: Adult Attention and Deficit Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  4. Trauma: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Early Life Trauma, Complex Trauma & Personality Manifestations

  5. Relationship Dynamics: romantic, friendship, workplace, community, familial

  6. LGBTQ+ Affirming Mental Health: gender identity, sexuality, coming out, gender confirming surgery evaluations

As a queer woman, Dr. Cardieri also has a clinical interest in LGBTQIA+ focused mental health and working with LGBTQIA+ patients. She has published in academic journals on the role of self-disclosure and identity in the clinical treatment of marginalized groups.

Finally, Dr. Cardieri brings a deep understanding of the complicated history of psychiatric and psychoanalytic treatment of marginalized communities, and is committed to dismantling traditional frameworks that pathologize deviations from cisgender, heterosexual, white, and male-centered definitions of “normal.”
